Both games are slightly different but very good. If you have never played a DW game before then I would suggest getting either Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition OR getting Samurai Warriors 4. If you have played DW7:E then you will probably be rather sour at some of the changes and I would probably avoid this one if you are on the fence but personally I am still enjoying it. If you haven't played an Empires game before and enjoy playing solo then you will enjoy it. Tl dr - Overall I would say its a step forward but veeeery far to the side as well. Starting stats can be modified in more ways and equipment/facial styles increased and there is even limited options for horse, solider and banner customisation making your Kingdoms feel a bit more personal. Virtue measuring how good or evil you are however this is only adjusted through the missions you perform. This has since been removed which makes it a little harder to really get a feel for some characters.
This changed the stratagems open that were easiest to unlock (you could unlock villainous stratagems easier if you were a villain).

The customisation is similar to DW7:E but has a few more armours and most unlocked from the beginning allowing for a great range of customisation. Bonus Objectives give you more to do during battle such as capturing certain bases, defeating enemies etc. The new stratagems system is good allowing you to regen stratagem points during the battle and giving you a variety of abilities for you to use when required. Online co-op doesn't exist on PC either.ĪI struggles to do things limiting you severely until you are a Ruler or a Prefect. Online co-op is available for all battles AFAIK but is dead playerbase wise. This means that Raids and Quest battles which tend to make a good portion of your gameplay have to be done solo or through online co-op. Local co-op is limited to only Free Mode and Invasion/Defensive battles. If you like playing with friends, then this one is not for you and that is my biggest gripe with it. If you like playing solo and making your own stories, you will love it. In Australia on PS4 its 80AUD and I would say probably 40-50AUD if you like the Empires games so around half-price it is now. The introduction of a Quests (small solo battles) and several other little elements I feel has made the game a bit better.
